Pieces

X moves like a non-royal king, when it captures a piece it changes its movement ability into the kind of piece it captured (if it captures another X it doesn't change its movement ability). It still is X though, and has the power to change again, but now its movement ability changes. If it copies a pawn, it moves non-capturing one space orthogonally and capturing one space diagonally, but it doesn't copy the ability of en-passant and promotion.

Rules

In this game the king is directly in the middle, so castling is always long castling on the Queen's side or on the X's side. Castling notations is K-0-Q and K-0-X. If X currently copies the king movement ability, it also counts as royal. If you have two royal pieces, one can be captured normally but then one will be checkmated when you only have one left. (If you lose your King but still have an X copying a King, then the X is not allowed to capture something to become non-royal)
