A little further in the same conversation between Ayumu and the girl, the board looks like this, which is a completely different position. The anime didn't really segue into a new game, but maybe that's what this is. Ayumu gave up at this point. You can tell from the girl's skirt and bare legs which side she is playing. Though Ayumu has his King tucked safely in the corner, it looks like he can't save his Bishop from capture.
