Everything is clearly written in the rules - you either follow the indications of the dice or you don't. If you roll a 2, then you may or may not play a knight. If you rolled 2-2-2-2, then you can make four moves with such type of chess piece as knight. Suppose you played one time with a knight from a combination of 2-2-2-2, now you can again go with the same knight or any other, or you can say pass for the remaining three indications of the dice. In any case, for each indication of a dice, you play a certain type of chess piece or pass.
If a 1 is rolled, you cannot pass and you must play a pawn unless it is blocked.
