I now added a button at the bottom of the Applet page that causes the HTML for a table of piece descriptions to be displayed. So users could copy-paste it into the articles describing their chess variant. This is probable a better method than relying on an Interactive Diagram on the page to generate it on the fly, as it would also work when JavaScript is disabled.
It also solves the problem of imperfect description generation for pieces that are too complex: one can simply edit the text for the corresponding pieces after it was incorporated in the article.
