Probably game Shogi vs Xiang-qi will work better: Xian-qi and Shogi have same number of files. To involve Germany: Courier is not only German national chess. There are also Farmers' chess. This game is for 4 players, but it's good good: one team may have Farmers' chess and Shogi, another team may have Xian-qi and normal chess (meaning not only USA, but also European countries). Also, game Shogi vs chess may be better on 8x9 board (Shogi must have only 1 Gold general and 8 pawns).
