This is a fantastic page, functionality and simplicity roll into one. I wish you could also provide no hassle online chess games versus other players, you could add a donate button or advertise using banners.

im giving you a below average because this chess is Quite hard it knows 4
move check mate

Anonymous wrote on Sun, Sep 28, 2008 08:05 AM UTC:Excellent ★★★★★
I think if you can't prevent four move checkmate (Fool's mate or
scholar's mate) then you really need to learn how to stop it, else
you'll be decimated by human places.

Not a bad chess program, man, maybe a little bit easy (it walked into
smothered mate) but it is called 'easy chess' for a reason. =]

I LIKE IT! IT IS EXACTLY WHAT IT CLAIMS TO BE ... EASY CHESS.
IT IS GREAT FOR CHILDREN OR BEGINNER PRACTICE.
(could be a little bit more refined but it is a very nice little program)

You can't castle

Joe Joyce wrote on Tue, Nov 25, 2008 05:33 PM UTC:
I just played 4 moves as white - moved the king's pawn up 1, put the bishop in front of the king, moved the knight out next to the advanced king's pawn, then clicked on the white king. It gave me 2 options: to move 1 square right, or 2 squares right. When I chose the 2 square option, it put the rook on the other side of the king. Were you trying to castle into, out of, or through a check?

I like the easy chess concept as a learning device and confidence builder. When playing the game, I have a difficult time following or figuring out where the computer opponent moved last. Is it possible to add a highlight of the last computer move? Similiar to the highlight of legal moves when the human plays. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Mr. Friedlander, A couple of days ago, I just finished teaching both of my sons chess using your tutorial. They are 6 and 8 years old. My 8 year-old just beat me.

They both really like your tutorial because it's simple, and easy to understand.

Thank you, Ed!!

Mark

Agree this is an excellent tutorial. Would reinforce the comment about slowing the computer moves down so the player can easily see the move. Also, would be great for game to reference move (Rook to king's bishop 4) so the players can become more familiar with positions.
But, overall this is a great effort. Thanks!

great site. thoroughly enjoyable practice, and a superb confidence builder. only constructive criticism i can offer is to dress up the site a little...

I think you should make it less simple? like when a horse can get killed but it doesn't get killed because the horse is going to kill something else like a queen, the queen moves instead of just killing the horse. Good job on it anyways.

It's great for beginners like me, however, it would be better if you had a
'back' option to return to see how and why a specific move was made
either by yourself or the computer opponent. Also, if you could explain
options of possible moves I could have made once I've made my move, that
would be helpful.

it is so hard please make it a little easier

joe b wrote on Thu, Mar 4, 2010 09:09 PM UTC:Average ★★★
Very good for teaching children to play.
The computer pieces move so fast you have to search for 'what happened'.
Just indicate some way the last piece that the computer moved.(such as
slight illumination or discoloration)
Also have a 'new game button'

Also when the game is won the program does nothing. It needs to at least
blink to celebrate.

This is WAY to hard. It is almost impossible to win, even the best chess player couldn't beat it.

Anonymous wrote on Wed, Apr 21, 2010 05:36 PM UTC:
He made it not for training, it's for illustrate 'normal' chess on his chess variants applets site, and it's reason for calling it 'easy'.

It is pretty well done. It seems a little bit on the easy side; however, I only played a couple games against it. Overall, a pretty neat item.
