Contrary to what I wrote in Jacks and Witches (regarding King, Knight and Cannon), it seems that KNC, KNE, KEC and KEE are all wins vs. a bare King. KNE and KEE are not really different from KNB and KBB. With a Cannon you must first confine the King to a file by keeping the Cannon besides the two other pieces until you get something like Cb1 Kb2 vs. ka4, then you limit the other King to two squares (Cb1, Kb5 vs. ka7/a8). With KNC, you play Na6 when the enemy King is on a7 and it goes ka8 Kc6 ka7 Nb4 ka8 Kc7 ka7 Ca1 ka8 Na2 mate. With KEC, you play Ed5 when the enemy King is on a8, (the Elephant must be able to reach the corner square), followed by Kc6 and Eb7 (allowing ka7 and kb8), followed by Ec8 (allowing ka7, ka8 and kb8), followed by Ed7 when the enemy King isn't on a7, followed by Kc7 when the enemy King isn't on b8, followed by Eb5 limiting the enemy King to a7/a8, followed by Ca1 and Ea4 mate. Anyway, Zillions surrenders.
I find Mir32 to be an excellent game... quite fun. The 8 x 8 board is comfortable for the armies employed. The Elephants, like 2-step Bishops which retain the Shatranj Elephant leap are great pieces with lots of potential. The single Cannon adds a lot to think about, as does the General (which moves like the Dragon Horse in Shogi). The best way to open remains a mystery to me. I think this game would be a great contender for a future CV multi-game tournament, or even a single-game tournament. I hope other CV members will give this one a try. Well done David!
yes this is a great game, David and i had a game on game courier, it is nice playing with the general (dragonhorse) and cannon, combined with rook knight and elephant/fers (which i like to call 'ferfil'). Opening pawn set up is very interesting too. All these things makes for open and exciting play. Cool game. (David, i was trying to email you, but there is a prob)
could mir chess 36 fight in chess with different armies? it would be interesting To see them against the colorbound clobberers or the remarkable rookies though their setup wouldn't add any thing to their army unlike in regular mir 36 beacause it is specifically oriented about the opponent's cannons but against chess with different armies it would become pretty obsolete unless against against an experimental army with cannons like the spacious cannoneers. the queen is weak but I don't know about their cannons they would definately help. and since the cannons are worth about half a bishop two would be a bishop's worth so i think it would work with the queen being worth a rook. and the elephants are worth about a bishop maybe less and the cannons may be more it should balance out,
