'GHI,LargeCVm': Within its milieu of defiantly large CVs, Gigachess has nice group of pieces. Twenty piece-types over 196 squares equal the recurrent ten percent in not going overboard. One of two Pawn-types is also forward-only ferz. Theme-based too in having animal side and knighted side. Without such an innovation as Giant Chess'(256 sqs.) Giant, among the interesting units are Crossbow(Vao, diagonal Cannon), Lion(F+W+A+D+N), Elephant(F+A), Machine(W+D), Ship(equal half-Gryphon). A table of close estimates for piece values included. Maybe a unique winning condition short of checkmate, or central board feature/mechanism, or just two-three fewer ranks and withal piece-types, would advance Gigachess towards 'excellent'.
Whoa this game is Huge! And Crazy!
The rook knight compound does not appear in omega chess you must have confused with the champion of omega chess which jumps to the second diagonal square or jumps to the second orthogonal or moves one orthogonally. Not the rook knight compound under the same name
You're perfectly right, I can't remember now why I made this mistake. I don't know how to modify the page but I would appreciate if an editor could remove the reference to Omega Chess for both the Marshall and the Cardinal. Thanks.
OK, I know my mistake. I made a confusion. I meant Grand Chess from Christian Freeling, http://www.mindsports.net/Arena/GrandChess/, I am sorry, my apologies.
Here in fact (N+D+A+W+F) is called Lion, as H.G. Muller expects, using all the Betza compounds in one piece around year 2001. Pritchard 'ECV' has earlier examples of the quintuple Betza-atomic compound. When Joe Joyce uses Elephant in the late 'aughts'(i.e. now) within Great Shatranj et al., going as (F+A), one precedent is with ''Elephant'' of Cazaux in Gigachess. Cazaux also used it in Shako 1997; and 1930's Novo Chess has it in a piece. Winther is right of course that the Alfil or both A. and Dabbabah mode in respectively Elephant and Mastodon make entirely different piece. Whether plugging either into 8x8 or 8x10 improves or not is problematic, because of the duplication in direction of movement of B-R-Q.
I have updated Gigachess (and other variants) on my website: http://history.chess.free.fr/news.htm Also, check for Terachess, surpassing Gigachess with a 16x16 board.
