I will try to get things started within the week. I am currently working 40 hour weeks and trying to find time to exercise when I'm not working. This doesn't leave me with a lot of time to focus on this.

I´m afraid I can´t play the Tournament, I can´t be a regular player in the next months. Sorry.

Okay, Roberto. I just deleted your ballot.

Assuming that no one else quits, these are the games for the next
tournament:

Alice Chess
Anti-King Chess II
Avalanche Chess
Berolina Chess
Cannons of Chesstonia
Catapults of Troy
Crazyhouse
Moderate Progressive Chess
Janus Chess
Korean Chess
Omega Chess
Pocket Mutation Chess
Shako
Mir Chess 32
Modern Shatranj
Templar Chess
Fusion Chess
Capablanca Random Chess
Glinkski's Hexagonal Chess
Time Travel Chess
Voidrider Chess
Dimension X
Falcon Chess
Neutral King Chess
Shatranj of Troy

If anyone else wants to drop out before we begin, let me know. Anyone with
a ballot in the preference poll is considered registered for this
tournament. The registrants are as follows:

Todor Tchervenkov
Greg Strong
Joe Joyce
Antoine Fourrière
Fergus Duniho
carlos carlos
Abdul-Rahman Sibahi
John Lewis
Adrian Alvarez de la Campa
Gary Gifford
je ju
Sam Trenholme
Uri Bruck
Calvin Pomerantz
Michael Schmahl
Nasmichael Farris
David Paulowich
juan rodriguez
Bogot Bogot
Jeremy Good

With 20 participants, each player will play 19 games. So each participant
will be able to choose six of the 25 games he doesn't want to play. But
first things first, and that is to make sure everyone listed here is
intending to participate in the tournament. If you want to drop out, let
me know now.

David Paulowich wrote on Sat, Sep 9, 2006 04:32 PM UTC:
The six games I do not wish to play are: [Anti-King Chess II] [Berolina Chess] [Crazyhouse] [Dimension X] [Glinkski's Hexagonal Chess] [Voidrider Chess].

I should note that I never use email for my games on Game Courier (which is why my personid page does not give an email address). Also, my email address will probably be changing again in January.

Edit: I see that inventors are allowed to play their own games in Game Courier Tournaments. I would be happy to play [Modern Shatranj] against Joe Joyce, as he has kindly playtested my Mir Chess variants on several occasions.

Berolina Chess
Mir Chess 32
Glinskis hexagonal

In addition, I will be traveling from Sept 23 to Oct 7. My internet
access will be limited, though I should have occassional access. Before
and after those dates I anticipate the likelihood of multiple moves daily.

Jeremy Good wrote on Sun, Sep 10, 2006 11:57 AM UTC:
Remember you get to list six, not just five, games you don't want to play. There aren't any I don't want to play. I hope that's okay.

🕸📝Fergus Duniho wrote on Tue, Sep 12, 2006 09:40 PM UTC:
Yes, that's okay. Everyone will play the same number of games, but the fewer you choose to not play, the easier it will be for me to accomodate everyone's wishes. In the event that I cannot accomodate everyone's wishes, since it will be a tough logistical problem to do so, it will help for everyone to rank the games they prefer not to play from most to least undesirable.

🕸📝Fergus Duniho wrote on Tue, Sep 12, 2006 09:43 PM UTC:
I can't make any promises about who will get to play whom at what. The logistics of accomodating everyone's preferences will force many choices.

🕸📝Fergus Duniho wrote on Tue, Sep 12, 2006 09:53 PM UTC:
I don't want to play at least these four: Avalanche Chess, Berolina Chess, Time Travel Chess, and Falcon Chess. I'll think more on this when I come up with the pairings. If not everyone has given their preferences by Sunday or whenever I get around to pairing people up, I will assume the rest are willing to play any games. So if you have preferences, get them in soon.

Games I'd prefer not to play:
1 - Neutral King
2 - Crazyhouse
3 - Berolina
4 - Moderate Progressive
5 - Avalanche
6 - Anti-King II
rated from 1 [maybe I could play this reluctantly] to 6 [rather eat
glass].

Hey, David, Modern Shatranj is the only game I've played to any extent
I've never lost; you trying to ding me in the tourney? ;-)

Christine Bagley-Jones wrote on Tue, Sep 12, 2006 11:16 PM UTC:
yeah you havn't lost any at MS, but have you won any? :)

Joe Joyce wrote on Wed, Sep 13, 2006 12:30 PM UTC:
Actually, yes, amazingly enough! And while my opponent was only 8, it was a good win! The rumors of a bribe to take a dive cannot be substantiated. The large bowl of chocolate icecream given immediately after the game was strictly for good sportsmanship. The $20 was for cab fare. Now, who have you beaten, huh? I heard you trained a wallaby to jump onto the board at a secret hand signal. And you've certainly never adequately refuted *that* charge in print.

It looks like Berolina is on everyone's list; how did this game do so well in the poll?

Gary Gifford wrote on Thu, Sep 14, 2006 04:13 PM UTC:
Are we suppose to list the games here in public that we'd rather not play in the tournament? Or, should we send an e-mail to Fergus or another designated CV person? I don't recall publically displaying non-preference choices last year. Also, when do we need to send in the choices? Thanks.

Fergus,

For the purposes of making your work easier, I really don't mind what
I'm sceduled not to play. That being said, I would like to play Shako,
Alice and Dimension X. Not because I'm particularly skilled in any of
them (check my ranking for verification of that), but because I have
played them.

Ignore my prior list of games I'd rather not play. Plug me in any place
that makes your efforts easier.

Thanks

As I mentioned in a comment a week or two ago, I'll have unpredictable
internet access from Sept 22 to Oct 8. I had hoped that I'd have made
enough moves in my first round of games (or even finished them) to bank
enough 'extra' time to not have any time expiration issues.

As the games haven't started yet, I'm a little concerned that I might
get dealt games the day I leave and not even know about them until they
are finished due to time expiration.

If there is any way to sort this out (like a bye in round one or unlimited
time in round one games) it'd be greatly appreciated. If not, I
understand and will accept my fate.

Thanks.

J
