the image links on this page are mostly broken

That does look better for smaller games. For larger games (like 16x16 Bigorra) where the scale might need to be reduced to see the whole board at once, the images can look too tiny with Table, but that wouldn't matter except that with CSS they don't scale down at all. PNG does scale the pieces correctly, but with that the highlight squares don't line up with the board squares.
Thanks! Much better now
Another strange css thing: in this game using Alfaerie: Many CSS rendering results in some of the black pieces being white.
What about having three royal pieces—land, sea, and sky?

Under the Comments box on the game page you should see Appearance Controls. If you click that it will expand to show more options, including Render as: which you need to set to CSS or Table. After you change the settings, you have to use the Preview button that you use to enter moves to update the game display.

This is very fun (but very long!) to play. I like it more than Terachess II because the extra pawn rank allows for more blocking and the very powerful pieces come singly instead of in pairs.

So, under my suggestion, I could define Þ to represent the Rose's movement path (possibly with a line something like def Þ = qN -- not just a character replacement, but a definition of a movement path). Then the Rifle Rose could be mÞcaibÞ.
If a bracketed move could be treated as a path, this could be m[qN]caib[qN]

I don't understand how to use morph for optional promotions. I have
promoChoice=W/PH/PF/PQ/PS/VH/VF/VQ/VS
and two pieces, P and V, with morph=*/5/6/7/8
and morph=*/1/2/3/4
but it won't work right. What I expect is that each piece would have one optional promotion on each of the 4 ranks before the last. Instead, they either get all the promotion options at the same time or none.

Could you add the missing bnespearman to alfaeriePNG?

You could give them different names without changing the images. The name "berolina pawn" especially is specific enough to be confusing if it's used for a piece that is not a berolina pawn. What about Horizonal Pawns and Vertical Pawns; or Side Pawns and End Pawns?
14 Pawns (Horizontal Pawns) placed behind the enemy line 14 Pawns (Vertical Pawns) placed on their own right gate
That looks better, except I think you got the horizontal and vertical mixed up in this part of the description

Currently, when I have changed the appearance settings for a game, after I confirm a move or if I cancel a previewed move, the appearance reverts to the default settings.
Many alfaerie pieces are invisible now using css rendering.
thanks!

I think you're reading a lot into this that isn't there. It just introduces an incentive to make non-obvious moves. Perhaps it could be cumbersome to play, but it's a clever idea.
yes, and if you leave your Queen exposed to attack you can predict that the other player will capture. The prediction element makes for more complex choices.

It looks like a problem with the checker image in alfaeriePNG. The Auto Alfaerie SVG set has it.

Some recent change to game courier has the Preview Resign and Reset buttons differently sized and misaligned. I assume the bigger Preview button might be intentional, but Reset is positioned slightly higher than Resign and it looks awful.

Just noticed, the Recognized Variants of the Month table does not work with the dark theme.
They both look too small. For a chess piece it ought to be something more stylized. Maybe just have the head (looking up) and fins, bigger?

On firefox they line up, but on chromium and vivaldi they don't. It seems to be somehow because the Preview and Resign buttons are both inside a span
but the Reset button is not.
I was imagining the fins coming out from the side of the piece.
